PRACTICAL GUIDES

A simple guide to smaller images

Understand file sizes, quality, and getting the balance right.

What compression changes

Lossy compression reduces file size by discarding some visual detail. A lower quality setting usually creates a smaller file, but textures and fine edges may become less sharp.

Begin at 80% quality

Start with the tool’s default quality, inspect the preview, and lower the setting gradually if you need a smaller file. Compare the exported size with the original: recompressing an already efficient image can make it larger.

Why WebP?

WebP is a modern image format supported by current browsers. It supports transparency and efficient compression. Confirm that the application or platform where you will use it accepts WebP.

Keep a backup

Our browser compressor keeps the pixel dimensions but can remove metadata and animation. Save the original separately if you might need to edit or print it later.
